Promoting an Integrated Curriculum

In Lamu, religious schools (madrasa) are a common feature in the daily life of all children. From as young as 3 years old, children start to attend both secular and madrasa. At a very young age, most of the lessons in madrasa, serve the purpose of educating the children on reading and speaking basic arabic.

Ikhlas has note that the current system used in educating the young students is not complimentary to developmental milestones of children. As such, disinterest in madras begins at a very young age. Partnering with developmental psychologists, and communication experts at Visiwani Ventures, Ikhlas has created a draft new curriculum to pilot for children ages 3-5 to implement at local madras, with the aim of making classrooms more fun and interactive.
