As part of our ongoing community outreach efforts, we were honored to host a group of visitors through a collaborative initiative coordinated by Halal Safaris Africa and Ikhlas Foundation. This visit was a beautiful example of how community tourism can create meaningful connections while supporting education, cultural exchange, and shared values.
The visitors from Turkey, South South Africa, Ethiopia, Somalia and various parts of Kenya came to Lamu to attend the retreat session with Sakina Journeys and Halal Safaris Africa. The guests spent time at our madrasa engaging with students and staff, sharing beneficial knowledge, life experiences, and words of encouragement. Their interactions inspired both our learners and educators, reminding us of the importance of learning through travel beyond the classroom and building bridges across communities.
In addition to the cultural exchange, Halal Safaris shared knowledge on historic sites, monuments and Islamic art in Lamu. Halal Safaris organizes Islamic heritage tours in Lamu and around Kenya and East Africa to promote religious and spiritual tourism with community impact. The company pledged a Islamic heritage tour for our teachers and students as well to ensure locals are equally exposed to local Islamic history as visitors it hosts.
This initiative reflects the true spirit of community-based tourism travel that is ethical, purposeful, and rooted in positive impact. We are deeply grateful to Halal Safaris for their generosity, and commitment to uplifting community institutions like our madrasa.
We look forward to more partnerships that promote education, compassion, and sustainable community development.
