The construction of the first women-only Islamic learning institution in Lamu East, Madrassatul Ikhlas, is progressing. Ikhlas Foundation donated land for construction of the centre which will include a prayer hall, bathrooms and wudhu areas, classrooms, a library, offices and a hall for hire whose proceeds will help sustain the madrassa.
Madrassatul Ikhlas started with 15 students and now has grown to 43 students. Previously classes were taught in a temporary classroom in Tchundwa village where sometimes the classes were disrupted for other activities.
A new logo has also been designed for the madrassa as below through kind volunteers:
