Building something from the ground up is never easy but it is always worth it. At Ikhlas Foundation, we’ve been working hard on a new water project in Shanga, and I’m so happy to share that we’ve officially hit a major milestone. The well is finished.

But we didn’t do it alone. To bring this well to life, we partnered with skilled local fundis who worked tirelessly under our supervision.

While the fundis were busy with the heavy lifting onsite our team at Ikhlas Foundation was working hard behind the scenes.We managed the funds, found the best materials, and stayed on top of every detail to make sure the well was built safely and would last a long time.For us as an NGO seeing that first sign of water was a huge moment. It showed us that we have what it takes to take a big idea, manage the challenges, and actually get it built in the heart of a village like Shanga. It’s a milestone we are really proud of.

In this kind of work you quickly learn that nature has its own plans. Even after all the hard work from the fundis and finishing the well perfectly our first tests showed that the water is salty.

The well is built and the structure is finally standing, but we know the job isn’t done yet. Even though we hit salty water right now, we are hard at work figuring out the best way to filter and treat the water so it can be the blessing this community really deserves.
